The background of Lavender Impressions

NZ’s first Bio-Gro certified Lavender Farm Gardening and landscaping have always been my passion. Also, being a professional chef, I have used lavender as tea, as flavouring for ice cream, in custard puddings, in honey, and in baking. Organically grown lavender has a larger mineral content that helps to enhance the immune system; which gave me the idea to grow lavender varieties organically on a commercial base.

After consulting with established lavender farmers I found a suitable property in Manakau; located one-hour north of Wellington, between the west-side of the Tararua mountain range and the Tasman Sea, with perfect microclimate conditions. Surrounded by organic minded neighbours and landowners, this area is environmentally balanced with clean stream water and a huge variety of native birdlife and plants.

By summer 1999 I had my first humble harvest of four types of organically grown lavender. I became a member of the New Zealand Lavender Growers’ Association and a member of Bio-Gro NZ (accredited IFOAM Certification Body). Since 2007 I was audited by AgriQuality NZ for one year.

Since 2008 I am not certified organic anymore. However I still grow and produce my products by the standards of those certification bodies and New Zealand Lavender Grower's Association. I guarantee that my products are 100% pure organic and trans-genetic free. My Oils, which are being tested by an independant laboratory, meets the high internationally acknowledged AFNOR standards.

Because organic lavender growing is so labour intensive I do not intend to become a very big export grower. To me the quality is more important than the quantity. I wish to give the customer an absolutely optimal health product to enjoy. Every single plant gets my devoted attention throughout the year.
